Louise Balaam

Louise's process is to draw outside and then paint in the studio. She has a unique ability of translating the experience of being in the landscape onto the canvas. The sounds, weather, smells and the process of walking through the landscape. In the studio, she uses the drawings as a reference to help focus her memory, but doesn’t work directly from them. Instead, she relies on her intuition to paint, so that the painting becomes an entity in its own right which starts to make its own demands.
